History and Who We Are Today
New Horizons Center for Learning, dba: New Horizons Academy, was founded in 1974 by Dr. Theresa Smith who was a pioneer, leader and advocate in education for children with learning differences. Dr. Smith overcame her own learning challenges to ultimately earn her doctorate when she was in her 50's. She worked at New Horizons Center for Learning well into her 80's until she passed away in January of 2008.
New Horizons Center for Learning began as an after-school program and then became a full-time day school in 1974. We have been at our current location for over 20 years.
